Wool Tree Guards - The future for Sustainable plantings in New Zealand.

As we approach autumn, we have been busy in our workshop producing wool tree guards - both big and small!

Our most popular - and standard size to buy online is ideal for small trees and shrubs - great for native regeneration projects. These have been going out the door to landowners and catchment groups all around the country.

However, we have also been busy custom making large tree guards for poplar and willow poles.

As we have done a few trade shows and events lately, I thought I would put together a little blog on the most commonly asked questions I get.

Why choose wool tree guards vs cardboard tree guards?

First up, this is a difficult question to answer, as we are not comparing apples with apples.

Wool and Cardboard are both biodegradable. However, when the wool eventually biodegrades into the soil it releases many nutrients for plant growth.
Our wool is made and manufactured in NZ and is engineered for its structural integrity. As the Wool Tree Guard breaks down over two years, it does not fall onto the tree and damage it which is often seen in cardboard tree guards. The engineered wool slowly breaks down from the base, feeding the soil and gives the tree a gradual hardening of process.

The wool tree guards support better farm gate returns for sheep farmers and helps build the strong wool industry in New Zealand. We currently source our wool from over 200+ sheep farms in New Zealand and hoping to grow further and support more farmers.

What about rabbits and hares?

Using wool tree guards is a great way to keep rabbits and hares away from your young trees as they do not like wool.

Do they allow light in?

Yes! Wool is great for light refraction and gives the plant enough sunlight for optimum plant growth.

Can we buy these for our poplar and willow poles?
